Hans-Peter Lehmann is a German opera and artistic director.
Born in Kassel, Lehmann was born son of the sculptor Kurt Lehmann [de] and an art historian. In 1955 he passed his Abitur at the Waldorfschule [de] in Hanover. Afterwards he studied music at the Hochschule für Musik Detmold from 1955 to 1957 and completed from 1957 to 1958 a study of art history and theatre studies at the Free University of Berlin.
