Leopoldo Lugones

An Argentine poet, journalist, politician, and essayist. He was born in Cordoba, Argentina, on June 13, 1874. He belongs to the modernist movement, and wrote in the fields of short stories, poetry, essays, and novels. He died in Buenos Aires, Argentina, on February 18, 1938. He began his artistic career with the collection “The Golden Mountains” in 1897, and followed it with the collections “Magic Times in the Garden” in 1905, and “The Sentimental Calendar” in 1909. In recent years, he turned to realism, and the satirical tendency dominated his poems. As in “Modern Songs” 1910, he supported national meanings in his collections, including the poems “The Country House” 1928. He also had historical works that met with great success, including “The History of Sarmiento” 1911.
